Hire a Car for the Day Across Melbourne

Tradie collecting keys at Turbofleet's Craigieburn depot for a one-day vehicle hire in north Melbourne

Your usual ute is off the road for the day. You’ve got a job across town that won’t wait. The thought of a half-day spent at an airport counter sorting a rental is the last thing you need. Turbofleet’s depots handle short rentals from two locations that sit closer to north and west Melbourne suburbs than any airport pickup ever will.

What does a single-day hire across Melbourne actually cost?

The teaser rate you see on a comparison site is rarely the figure you pay at the counter. You pay Turbofleet’s daily rate, the fuel you use, and any excess reduction you choose to add. No airport surcharge, because the depots aren’t at Tullamarine. No location premium. No admin fee tacked on at checkout.

A bond is held on a credit card and released when the vehicle comes back in the same condition it left. For a real all-in figure on your dates, the team at either depot will quote it before you book. Phone 1300 410 510 and run the numbers in five minutes.

Vehicles that fit a real day’s work in Melbourne

A day hire doesn’t always mean a city hatch. Turbofleet’s fleet runs from small cars for a CBD meeting and back, through mid-size sedans for a Melbourne airport drop, into SUVs for a family day at Phillip Island, and work-ready utes and vans for tradies covering a job in the western suburbs. If you’re shifting tools, ladders or stock between sites for one day, a 2-seater van with a barn-door back saves you two trips in a wagon. Pricing up a job and trying to keep margins tight? A smaller vehicle drops the daily rate. The depot team will steer you to the right pick for what’s on tomorrow.

Can you pick up and return on the same day?

Yes. A standard day rental runs as a 24-hour block from collection. Pick up at 7am, return by 7am the next morning. If you only need it from 9 to 5 and want to drop it back the same evening, the depot can usually accommodate that without changing the rate. Out of action by close of business? After-hours key drop is available at both Craigieburn and Ravenhall. Let the team know when you book and they’ll have the paperwork ready, the vehicle fuelled and parked out front when you arrive.

Pickup from Craigieburn or Ravenhall, whichever cuts your drive

Turbofleet’s two depots are positioned to keep your collection time short. Craigieburn at 2a Rushwood Drive sits inside the catchment for Mickleham, Broadmeadows, Coolaroo, Roxburgh Park and Campbellfield. If you’re working a job up the Hume or heading north of Melbourne, that’s the one to use.

Ravenhall at 2/44 Orbis Drive covers Sunshine North, Taylors Lakes, Keilor and the western industrial precincts. Picking the closer depot matters more on a single day than it does on a week-long rental, because every hour spent driving to the counter is an hour you’re not earning. North Melbourne crews can email north@turbofleet.com.au; west Melbourne crews email west@turbofleet.com.au.

What do you need to bring to the counter?

A current Australian or international driver’s licence, a credit or debit card in the driver’s name for the bond, and a second form of ID. For a day hire, that’s it. Business invoicing is available if you’ve set up an account beforehand.

If a second driver is taking the wheel during the day, they need to be present at collection with their own licence. Minimum age is 21 for most vehicles. Running a job and unsure if your apprentice qualifies? Ring the depot before you book and the team will check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.1 How long does collection take at the depot?

With ID ready and paperwork submitted online, most day collections from the Craigieburn or Ravenhall depot take under 15 minutes from walking in to driving out.

Q.2 Is fuel included in the daily rate?

No. Vehicles leave with a full tank and need to return full. If you can’t refuel before bringing it back, the depot will refuel for you at a per-litre charge.

Q.3 Can a day hire be extended at the counter?

Yes, as long as the vehicle isn’t booked behind you. Call the depot during the day to extend so you’re not charged a late return fee.

Q.4 Do you do same-day bookings?

Yes. Phone 1300 410 510 to check availability for today. Online bookings usually need an hour or two of lead time so the vehicle can be prepped.

Q.5 What happens if I get a flat tyre or windscreen chip during the day?

Call the depot first. Roadside is covered on Turbofleet’s fleet and the team will sort a fix or a swap depending on what’s quickest.

When your usual ride is out of action and the day’s already booked solid, the last thing you need is a rental runaround. Phone Turbofleet on 1300 410 510, or email north@turbofleet.com.au for Craigieburn or west@turbofleet.com.au for Ravenhall, and the keys will be ready when you arrive.
